History in Bossier Parish goes back more than 9,000 years before settlers from the Carolinas, Virginia, Georgia and Kentucky made their way up the Red River. The Caddo Indians lived in what is now the Bossier Parish area until 1835 when they sold their lands and moved to Texas. The English, Scotch, Irish and Scotch-Irish descent immigrants brought their culture, religion and language to the area, replacing them.

More recently, Bossier Parish has seen another population explosion, becoming the fastest growing parish in the state. The Bossier Parish Communications District in Benton, LA decided that it was time to upgrade their systems both in preparation for Phase II and to deal with this increase in the number of folks calling the area home. "Originally, we had chosen to let other agencies work out the bugs in Phase II first," Tracy Hilburn, 9-1-1 Center Manager said. "Then in the spring of 2004, we decided we were ready to move forward."

The district was particularly interested in getting a CAD system. Ms. Hilburn went on, "we knew we wanted the CAD to be part of a fully-integrated, end-to-end system. We didn't want to have to chase vendors around to solve problems."

When it came time to select a CAD, Miss. Hilburn added, "we looked at everything on the market and included staff in the decision-making process. We had many vendors come into the communications center to demonstrate their systems. When the dust settled, we decided to go with Positron." Today Bossier Parish has Power CAD as well as Power 911, Power MAP and Power MIS. Ms. Hilburn said, "We have been a Positron customer before and everything has always been good. Positron's service has always been great. That made the decision easy."

Power CAD is a configurable Computer Aided Dispatch system providing complete resource and incident management for single and multi-agency environments. Power CAD provides dispatchers with both graphical drag-and-drop and command-line control that increases dispatcher efficiency and accuracy.

Ms. Hilburn summed up her feelings, "for any concerns, Positron has been more than willing to help. I get assistance on everything I need."
