The Village of Gurnee, IL is not named after the man who discovered the area. The Village isn't even named after a former resident. With the arrival of the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad in 1873, Walter S. Gurnee, a member of the board of directors for the railroad, became the namesake of the town. Sent west years before from New York by his father and flush with cash, Gurnee was searching for a land rich in opportunity. To this day, the Village of Gurnee is still known as the "Community of Opportunity."

Back in 1999, the Gurnee Police Department was considering its own opportunity to move into a new building. In 2000, they began selecting vendors for their dispatch equipment. "We were looking towards the future. We knew we wanted the new system to be computer based. Also, we wanted to be able to get better information out of it and in a much easier way," said Mr. Allan Marquardt, 9-1-1 / Records Manager for the Gurnee Police Department.

"We selected Positron because it offers a total package," he goes on to add. The Gurnee Police Department went live with Power 911 and Power MIS. "We had also given our dispatchers a chance to look at the systems. They liked Positron too. We found Positron to be a very professional company. And they have such good references."

The agency has been using the system since October 2003. "Now that the system has been up and running for more than two years, we really like the results we get with Power MIS. We can get the information we need, the way we want it."
