Positron gives The Burlington Police Department The Power to Respond™

As the mighty Mississippi winds its way by the bluffs and basins of the area, the city of Burlington, IA reminisces on its European memories. Dating back to the 19th century, tall church steeples and knobby cobblestone streets evoke memories of the homes that the locals left behind to start over in the land of plenty.

Lumber, law and politics are just some of the things that brought fortune to the immigrants that settled Burlington, the State's original capital. As their fortunes grew, so too did the scale of the mansions that swelled out of the treetops in the area.

To protect both old and new homes alike, the Burlington Police Department, in Des Moines County, IA, decided to upgrade dispatch. Beginning in January of 2004, Burlington started planning to replace their existing three positions of conventional phones and add the hardware and software needed to bring them up to the state of the art in emergency response

The upgrade would be necessary to maintain the quality of service they had been providing to the twelve agencies for which they dispatch and the dozens more that they monitor on the mutual aid radio network.

The BPD selected Positron for its suite of incident management applications. Power 911, Power MAP and Power MIS, using large, flat touch screen monitors, went live in October, 2004.

With Power 911, the police department will, for the first time, be able to track wireless 9-1-1 calls and monitor statistics on wireless call volume. Additionally, the agency is pleased to be able to determine the location of 9-1-1 calls for the entire county using Power MAP, Positron's on-screen mapping software.
