Positron Adds Pictometry’s Aerial Imaging Databases and
Measuring Software to its E9-1-1 Power MAP Product
Atlanta, GA - Rochester, NY, June 23, 2005
Pictometry International Corp., the worldwide leader in digital, aerial oblique imagery and Positron Public Safety Systems, the leader in fully integrated, end-to-end public safety solutions for call handling and dispatching, announced today that Pictometry’s measuring software and digital aerial photo databases will be embedded as a built-in component of the Positron Power MAP product. Under the terms of the joint business partnership agreement, the combined product offering will be available via both companies to new and existing Positron customers who want to add it to their Power MAP system.
The combined solution enables 9-1-1 dispatchers to have a single, integrated software system
that can seamlessly utilize both companies’ software. The end result allows dispatchers using
Positron’s Power MAP to not only bring up a detailed map of an inbound caller’s location, but
also visually inspect, through Pictometry’s 3D-like high-resolution aerial images, the actual
incident area as if they were right there at the scene. This enables 9-1-1 dispatchers and first
responders to have an incredible wealth of visual information that can help save time on each
and every call. Both companies will be aggressively marketing the integrated solution to their
customers, primarily made up of regional 9-1-1 dispatching centers that handle millions of calls
on an annual basis.
Pictometry’s industry leading software enables users to easily access up to 12 different oblique
(at an angle) views of any property, building, highway, or other feature in a county. The
software also enables users to obtain measurements such as distance, height, elevation, and
area directly from the 3D-like imagery as well as insert GIS content and other data.
Established in 1970, Positron has more than 32 years in delivering mission critical applications
and over 20 years of developing public safety solutions. With more than 500 employees in
offices throughout the world, Positron's global footprint extends from the United States and
Canada through Europe, Africa, Latin America, Australia, Asia and the South Pacific.
Positron’s Power MAP product is part of an end-to-end suite of applications designed
specifically for emergency response. Its Phase II capabilities and rich feature set make it the
premier E9-1-1 mapping software available today.
"Our customers recognize that in the mission-critical environment of E9-1-1 call-handling and
dispatching operations, the Positron/Pictometry combination greatly enhances their ability to
respond," said Paul G. Guest, Director of Marketing for Positron. "The products’ feature sets
complement each other to the full benefit of our users."
Steuben County, NY’s 9-1-1 Center recently deployed its fully operational system that included
both Positron and Pictometry software. County 9-1-1 Director Timothy Wixom said, "Until
you really see how this works, you don’t understand the power of Pictometry and how this can
help dispatchers and first responders, especially at night. In most any situation, this will allow
us to more quickly send the right help to the right location."
Wixom comments that the combined Positron and Pictometry solution is extremely useful in
both the county’s rural and urban areas, allowing dispatchers and first responders to instantly
know vital details of incidents in progress. "In fact, when we were conducting our Phase II
compliance testing with a national wireless carrier, they initiated a test call to see if we could
properly identify where they were calling from. Not only could we bring up their location
instantly on Positron’s Power MAP, but using Pictometry we immediately saw that they were
calling from inside a local doughnut shop, which blew them away. There’s no way counties
and states can afford not to have it – there’s mapping, then there’s Pictometry."
"Pictometry offers a very compelling and powerful solution that continues to prove itself every
day in the field," said Dante Pennacchia, chief marketing officer for Pictometry. "We are very
pleased to be working with Positron in the deployment of our joint product offering to
dispatch centers around the world."
