Johnston County First in State to Implement Full Phase II Service
Atlanta, Georgia, April 8, 2003

Positron Public Safety Systems congratulates Johnston County Emergency 911 Communications as the first county in North Carolina to successfully implement full Wireless E911 Phase II service. As of last week, all wireless providers were providing Phase II service. This accomplishment was achieved through the tireless dedication and perseverance of everyone at Johnston County Emergency 911 Communications, with support from their vendors and service providers.

Phase II service has already had a positive impact to the citizens of Johnston County. During the ice storms last December, many stranded callers were rapidly located and emergency response crews sent to give aid.

Johnston County was one of the first users of Simon, Positron's all-inclusive E9-1-1 console. Remarkably easy to use, Simon's touch-screen interface provides Johnston County communications staff total command of all E9-1-1 operations in a small form factor design that saves space on their desktop. Provided through Sprint almost two years ago, 911 Director Jason Barbour says he "wouldn't trade Simon for anything. It's been great."

Seven answering positions handle over 300,000 calls annually, with approximately 43% coming from wireless callers. This percentage is a sharp increase from 1993, where only approximately 3% of calls were from wireless callers. This increase is sure to continue.
