Update - SouthCom, Illinois brings all wireless carriers to Phase II
Naperville, Illinois, May 20, 2003

Located just south of Chicago, SouthCom is an enhanced 9-1-1 center dispatching fire, EMS and police for the Villages of Richton Park, Matteson and Olympia Fields, Illinois. SouthCom serves an area of 27 square miles with a residential population of 37,000 people. SouthCom's telecommunicators are all certified in LEADS, CPR, TDD and EMD and process a total of 50,000 calls for service each year as well as 26,500 phone calls on 9-1-1.

Agent

SouthCom is proud to report that it has successfully brought all wireless carriers to Phase II service earlier this month. SouthCom moved into their new state-of-the-art center in March of 2003, and in less than 3 months achieved this remarkable milestone. The 9-1-1 system, provided and supported by SBC Communications, is powered by Positron Public Safety System's Power 911 Intelligent Workstation.

SouthCom - Power 911Each of four touch-screen equipped Power 911 workstations is seamlessly integrated via First-Party CTI (Computer Telephony Integration) to the center's Nortel Meridian PBX - a robust approach that doesn't depend on a central CTI server or network for call control.

Power 911

There is no phone set on the desktop - 9-1-1 and administrative call handling are easily performed on-screen via the workstation's touchscreen, mouse or keyboard. Power 911's Agent Toolkit adds calltaker access to both group-wide and personal speed dials.

SouthCom also implemented Positron's Power MIS 2.0 Management Information System, providing management with comprehensive reporting of PSAP activity.

"The new Positron Power 9-1-1 is just that... powerful! At SouthCom we can process the information we receive quicker and more accurately than we could using our old equipment, which allows us to send the best response to those in need."
   Supervisor Denise Pavlik

"The ability to transfer any phone call to any number at anytime is truly an enhanced feature of Power 9-1-1. It allows you total flexibility and versatility in processing calls for emergency assistance."
   Telecommunicator Amy Armatore

"The learning curve required for Power 9-1-1 was low, it is easy to understand the system and start using it almost immediately. Our total training time was about 3 hours average for each telecommunicator."
   Telecommunicator Training Coordinator George Pearson

"With wireless Phase II and the possibility of transferring those calls to outlying jurisdictions, Power 9-1-1 just made sense. The number of 9-1-1 transfers as well as the number of speed dials available was an important consideration, as was the reliability of Positron equipment. The telecommunicators at SouthCom are very happy with our new Power 9-1-1 system."
   Executive Director Ron Bonneau

Ron Bonneau, ENP is Executive Director of SouthCom, and NENA North Central Region VP.

Positron is proud to welcome SouthCom to the family.
