Positron gives Clinton County
Office of Emergency Services,
The Power to Respond™
Atlanta, Georgia, August 30, 2004
In the Northeast corner of New York State, in the heart of New England's picturesque tranquility, Clinton County, as old as America itself, is located on beautiful Lake Champlain. The lake has been called "everything most American lakes are not." With the Adirondack Mountains rolling gently in the background, this is one of the nation's most magnificent areas, offering thousands of miles of wilderness, abundant accommodations and plentiful activities.
In 1999, James King, Director of the Clinton County Office of Emergency Services and a respected leader in the Northeast Kingdom's 9-1-1 community, was searching for a complete solution to bring world-class emergency response to Clinton County. The PSAP, located in the newly acquired Emergency Operations Center situated on the decommissioned Plattsburgh Air Force Base, covered a little more than 1,500 square miles. Mr. King wanted his agency to have leading edge technology for the 79,000 people and 50 agencies that make this area their home.
"We needed a product that could interface with some of our existing equipment," says Mr. King. "We had searched and found a few manufacturers that could provide what we needed. Then we found Positron."
Mr. King's PSAP runs Power 911, Power CAD, Power MAP, Power MIS providing him with a comprehensive ability to respond to crisis situations and a complete view of the operations of the agency. Mr. King also relies on the certified integration Positron's products have with ProQA Medical Priority Dispatch. Mr. King also operates Accessibility Software for a visually impaired call taker. Aside from these, Mr. King had other subjects he wanted to cover.
"Anybody can build a system," he said. "It's the service that sets Positron apart. I know that with Positron, I can call 24x7, even at midnight on New Year's Eve, and get a human being that will help me get through whatever problem I'm facing. Positron has proven itself superior in the area of service." As an example, he says that installation "went off almost flawlessly. There were a few glitches but Positron's techs stayed until we were completely satisfied they were solved."
"We chose Positron for the customer service and after sales support," agrees Kelly Donoghue, Assistant Director. "Positron treats us as an individual and not just another PSAP. Positron makes their stuff work the way we need it to. They don't try to force it down our throats."
Mr. Donoghue went on to add that "the quality and scalability of Positron's technology were always very important to us." The PSAP would need equipment that would be around many years and that could handle the increasing call volume they would face.
While total call volume increased about 13% in 2003, wireless volume is forecast to more than triple this year. In going Phase II five months ago, the agency, using Power MAP, has set itself up to locate and help cellular callers in distress wherever they are, whenever they need assistance.
Power MAP is a dedicated public safety map viewer providing automatic display and management of calls, incidents, responses and resources. Power MAP's blend of sophisticated engineering and simplified operation allows agency personnel to locate callers and direct emergency responses quickly and accurately.
Since going live, the Clinton County Office of Emergency Services 9-1-1 center has been running so smoothly that, according to Director King, "we recommend Positron to any agency without hesitation."
Clinton County is as safe as it is beautiful.
Positron is proud to have the Clinton County Office of Emergency Services in the family.
