Positron gives Broomfield County Office of Emergency Services,
The Power to Respond™
Denver, Colorado, September 29, 2004

The City and County of Broomfield is strategically located at the heart of one of the region's high-tech growth areas. Situated 10 miles from Boulder and 12 miles from Denver, Broomfield provides businesses and residents easy access to all metro Denver services and transportation resources.

Broomfield County Emergency Communications Center Covering approximately 35 square miles, Broomfield is a unique, mid-sized city with a lifestyle that residents characterize as having a "small-town, hometown" atmosphere. In an ideal small hometown, residents know each other and look out for each other in a safe community where all ages are comfortable. That kind of community feeling is a shared value in Broomfield.

On November 15, 2001, Broomfield became Colorado's 64th county. As a county, Broomfield now provides a comprehensive array of services to its approximately 45,000 residents. One of those elements is public safety.

To provision their new 911 center in 2001, Broomfield County selected Positron's Life Line 100 ANI/ALI controller and Power 911 IWS with Power MIS. Equipped with 9 call-handling positions and supporting 9 E9-1-1 trunks, the center dispatches for the police department as well as the fire department, which also handles EMS emergencies. “We handle approximately 13,000 9-1-1 calls every year, both wireline and wireless,” says Kimberly Coleman, Communications Supervisor.

When the time came to implement Phase II wireless mapping earlier this year, Broomfield added Positron's Power MAP to its PSAP. Power MAP is a computer-based mapping application, specifically engineered for the public safety environment to meet Phase I and Phase II requirements, and to integrate fully with Positron's suite of emergency service applications. “Integration was the key to our choice of Power MAP,” says Coleman. “We wanted an application that would provide us all the information about the call. Positron's Power MAP was the only one that would integrate fully with our call-taking solution.”

Broomfield County Emergency Communications Center Available to any PSAP regardless of call-handling solution, Power MAP not only provides full information about a wireline or wireless call, but when integrated with Positron's Power 911 IWS can also provide call control directly from the mapping application itself. This allows for quicker, easier call-handling for the Broomfield communicators.

Though a new application to the Broomfield dispatchers, Power MAP is being well-received by those who are using it. Says Coleman, “The installer was fantastic, and the implementation went well. Any issues we had were addressed by our installer. Our dispatchers are getting used to using the software, which is a big change over our older, static maps.”

Positron is proud to have Broomfield County, Colorado in the family.
