Positron gives Dunklin County 9-1-1, Missouri

In the Southeast corner of Missouri, Dunklin County sits in the bootheel among Arkansas, Tennessee and Kentucky. Dunklin County 9-1-1's telecommunicators dispatch emergency responses for more than 32,000 residents in the 546 square-mile county.

E9-1-1 first came to the northern part of Dunklin County in 1998. In 2001, the service area was extended to cover the entire county. In 2004, Shane Stoelting, Director of Dunklin County 9-1-1, decided that he would need to upgrade his agency's call taking equipment to meet these expanded demands.

The problem of how best to proceed loomed large. He wanted to run a remote PSAP using a single ANI/ALI controller in the main dispatch center and connect the two centers with a T1 line, using Voice over IP technology to combine the voice and data streams. He knew he would need top-notch technology and a system that would be extremely reliable and easy to use.

To help him make his decision, Mr. Stoelting decided to consult some of the other PSAP Directors in his area.
