The O.C.. California's Orange County is a trendy place that even has its own television show. Almost 200 years ago, the land that would become Santa Ana, the county seat, was granted by the Spanish to Jose Antonio Yorba in 1810. He was given the land for his service on Captain Gaspar de Portola's expedition to California. This expedition discovered the area Portola would name Santa Ana. The expedition also would discover the San Francisco Bay and the areas that would become Palo Alto and Stanford University.

In that same spirit of exploring the possibilities, The Santa Ana Police Department started working to upgrade their dispatch back in 2004. "We wanted to be able to push information to the officers in our cars," says Corporal Bob Faster. "We needed to upgrade our entire infrastructure to do that."

But what platform to choose? The Police Department started working on a list of requirements. According to Corporal Faster, "The system had to be user friendly. Also, we wanted the solution to be a fully-integrated system. We didn't want to worry about interoperability with other vendors."

He goes on to add, "When we had finished evaluating all our options, we thought that Positron was a better match with what we needed. We also gave the dispatchers a chance to review a number of applications and they chose Positron too. We really thought that Positron was the best fit for our needs."

On January 31, 2006, barely a month after taking possession of the equipment, the SAPD went live with Positron's Life Line 100 and Power 911. The Police Department also has plans to bring in Power CAD, Power MAP and Power Mobile later this year.

It is an integrated Intelligent Workstation that provides call takers with on-screen control of both landline and wireless calls in a wide variety of telephony environments. Through an intelligent approach to information display and management, Power 911 enhances emergency call handling efficiency and consistency.

In summing up his experience, Corporal Faster said, "What you get for the money exceeds all other vendors' offerings."
