Positron is pleased to announce the release of Positron VIPER (Voice over IP for Emergency Response). Positron VIPER provides PSAPs with the ability to use VoIP as a telephony layer within their premises in a complete system designed and engineered by Positron. Positron VIPER represents the next generation of E9-1-1 for today's progressive world.

Positron VIPER is based on the use of the non-proprietary Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) for the delivery of voice services, reflecting Positron's commitment to developing solutions that provide the most flexible offering from a technical and cost effective standpoint.

Positron VIPER addresses customers' demands for a scalable solution that allows them to move easily and efficiently onto a single physical network by integrating data, voice, and future video/wireless traffic while at the same time benefiting from next generation PBX services.

Positron VIPER:
- Is highly fault-tolerant, with never more than 50% of any one function affected by a single failure. In most cases, there are fully redundant standby systems where failure results in no loss of functionality.
- Is scalable, supporting up to 96 9-1-1 trunks.
- Delivers high performance. The networking architecture relies solely on IP connectivity and operates on a high-speed, gigabit backbone, with managed Ethernet switches supporting QoS for guaranteed voice quality.
- Is based on the industry standard Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). This ensures a rich voice and data feature set, and the ability to natively communicate with other SIP compliant devices and networks.
- Was engineered to support proposed I3 industry standards for native VoIP 9-1-1 calls when such service is available.
- Immediately converst audio to digital, minimizing EMI and RF interference.
- Delivers Caller ID, if supported by the administrative FXO lines.
- Is specifically engineered to support multiple remote positions for distributed PSAP operations and central management.
- Employs a highly efficient, compact design. The reduced part count ensures a higher MBTF and lower time to deploy. The single cabinet concept allows expansion to higher densities of positions and lines.
- Supports Power 911 release 4.25, providing a user interface identical to
previous versions of Power 911. This translates into zero extra training
for end users.
- Provides complete support for the expected capabilities and interfaces your PSAP needs, including TDD/TTY, call detail printing, CAD interface, redundant ALI links, and call check recording.
- Supports network time protocol (NTP) master clock source.
- Can be delivered fully staged from the factory, allowing rapid deployment. Remotely manageable and upgradeable, Positron VIPER provides rapid and lower-cost maintenance.
- Uses a browser-based, clientless management interface that facilitates anytime, anywhere maintenance.
- Supports trunk- or position-based recording with industry standard records; or enhanced functionality with Power LVR, Positron's logging voice recording solution.
- Carries both voice and data on a single physical network, and easily accommodates future technologies as they become mainstream, such as IP Automatic Location Information (ALI).
Support of Remote Sites

The use of IP as the unique protocol for the transmission of voice and data greatly simplifies the task of deploying remote positions and sites. With the backroom components and possibly the application servers installed at a central location (a Primary PSAP, a Communication Center or even the Central Office), a single data connection is all that would be required to deploy fully-functional IWS positions.

Using routers and Ethernet switches that support QoS and Power 911's profile capabilities, remote sites can access specific 9-1-1 trunks and/or Admin lines to provide emergency call handling services. In addition, IP Phones can be deployed across the data network to provide administrative phone extensions in an extremely cost effective manner.

It is important to note that from a service and maintenance perspective, the deployment of backroom components at a central location greatly reduces the number of devices located at remote sites and dramatically reduces the necessity of dispatching technicians on site. Immediate benefits are cost savings and increased quality of service to the PSAPs and thus, to the public.

Return on Investment

Positron VIPER provides an unprecedented return on investment for new and existing users of Positron solutions. Starting with a lower part count than traditional CPE, Positron VIPER delivers a system that is easier to install, easier to configure, easier to maintain while still delivering the richest VoIP experience available for Public Safety. Positron VIPER continues Positron's tradition of innovation and our commitment to giving public safety agencies the Power to Respond™.
